Tockholes...A watercolour of village life

Tockholes is a beautiful picturesque village nestled in the fold of Darwen Moor. There is a magic here that seems to ensure that no matter how many walkers there are they never seem to disturb it’s tranquillity.

The magic and vibrancy of this ancient village (rumour has it is goes back to the 9th Century) makes this a pleasure to visit.  If you don’t live here then it is well worth a visit.

It is important to remember both the history and nature of Tockholes as we look to how we are going to move forward.  It would be so easy to overdevelop, but thankfully, and with more than a little help from the Parish Council, we have managed to avoid destroying the beauty or character.

We have achieved many successes over the past few years
The dog fouling, although can still be a problem, is on the decrease.
Traffic calming, although contentious to some is now in place, and producing results
It is now much easier to walk through the village on a fine spring evening
The noise from the motorcross just outside the village has been dealt with.

A new bench and a notice board have been installed (2007) for the residents benefit.  Compliments of an external grant, working in partnership with the clerk to Tockholes Parish Council.

Looking forward, we still have challenges ahead of us, but if keep working as a team we can make sure Tockholes stays a beautiful place to live in and to visit.  Don't forget to check out the local hostelries for their excellent food.
