COMMUNITY ORCHARD.

A bequest has been received from the widow of a gentleman who was a dedicated member of Lancashire Badger Group.  This will help to purchase native trees once more funding becomes available.  The bequest has been very gratefully received.

Also BTCV have obtained some substantial funding from Sita to complete the work on the Community Orchard.

Pathways have been layed along with extensive fruit tree planting by the children from the village school, ably helped by Mum's and officers. (See above.)

Work will continue well into Spring to finish this project and then it will be handed over to the residents, schools and basically anyone who is interested in helping to maintain it.

The benefits will be some wonderful fruit in the years to come.

Edgworth has long been the largest of the villages in North Turton. It is more than just another village, it really is it's own community. There are plenty of times when it can seems livelier than Bolton town centre. Balancing this with the peacefulness of village life has always been a challenge, but we manage.

Projects:-

Eighteen months ago I obtained a number of grants to enable the development of a brand new computer suite in the Barlow Institute for the use of all residents of North Turton along with work stations etc.   There are now several computer courses being run.  Please contact George at the Barlow for further information.

Again from external grants, the basement at the Barlow was converted from a redundant storage area to a useful area presently being used by the Youth Club, but with potential for other uses.  Great pity that it keeps being flooded - hopefully with better management of the drains this will stop in the future.

The walking bus to protect our children on their way to school is now in its third year with volunteers needed to continue this excellent service

Interactive road signs showing the speed that drivers are travelling at were installed on Bolton Road and Broadhead Road last year.

PROJECTS FOR 2008:

Interactive road signs will be introduced shortly on Blackburn Road.

The Barlow Institute 'Adventure Play Area' is to be updated with equipment chosen by the children at the primary school in discussion with the school council.  Starting date early summer 2008.  Awaiting for the funding to become available for a start date to be announced.

These are things that are happening now and there is more to come through consultation with residents of North Turton with Tockholes.

This is not just my ward, this is also my home.
