Chapeltown... the very heart of North Turton
Nestling in the very heart of North Turton, the charming and peaceful village of Chapeltown holds a very special place in my heart. With the beauty of St. Annes or the breathtaking views over the moors, Chapeltown is a very special place to be.
There really isn’t anything like the welcoming yellow of daffodils in front of St. Annes in the first glow of springtime.
We have been rather lucky in Chapeltown as the new people moving in have adopted the ‘Chapeltown’ way of life rather easily. Their children have fitted in really well to the local community, and I for one would like to say ‘Thank you’ to them for making this such a special place to be.
In 2006 I secured £25,000 for some additional pieces of play equipment for the playground in Chapeltown. These were installed early 2007, following one or two set backs, not least the fact that the van with the new equipment in was stolen.
Through a joint effort Chapeltown was voted best kept village of 2005.
Casting an eye to the future, as we must do, Chapeltown station is becoming a large issue, and a delicate balancing act, between the needs of those who would like to use it to commute to work and protecting the space of the village, to ensure that Chapeltown doesn't become a glorified car park.
A lot more work has to be done to convince the various authorities to open the station.
