Belmont...Nature at it's most powerful
There is raw power to the wilderness of Belmont that is not equalled anywhere I have seen, when the wind is blowing through your hair it really is the moors at their most beautiful. From the sheer power of Winter Hill to the depths of the Blue Lagoon, Belmont is a place that you just can’t help but be in awe of.
For Belmont to stay as special as it is, it is vital that we keep this power and majesty intact.
Through working with the Parish Council we have managed to put Belmont well and truly back on the map.
An agreement with the Parish Council has been reached to rebuilt and maintained a new public toilet block on The Moss, replacing the one burned down by vandals 3 years ago. Building work should begin early Spring 2008.
Following consultation finance for road safety improvements has been secured. Work commenced.
District Councillor Jean Rigby has applied and successfully obtained a grant for The Moss for play equipment of £50,000 from the National Lottery Play Strategy and £12,000 from The Community Foundation for Bootle. The latter grant has gone towards phase 1 and the purchase of a slide (see above).
Phase 2 and 3 of the play area at the Moss are now complete and a wonderful opening event was arranged compliments of the parents and Belmont Parish Councillor Damian Appleby. Edna Aspden (retired from Belmont School) was asked to cut the ribbon.
Belmont has a lot of projects coming up, which district and parish councils will be working with the villagers on in the coming months and years.
Highways issues - work on traffic calming and resurfacing finally finished, following many delays due to the bad weather winter 07/08.
